ABOUT ME:
I am Irene Lafleche, owner of this shop and website, I started quilting in 2003; having run a small business making and selling winter-weight knit wear for 14 years as well as working in the Federal Government as an I.T. professional. I traded in the knitting needles for sewing needles.
The name Tucanquilt is a play on words. Tu which is french for you, canquilt is because I know you can do it too. Check out the workshops I have listed on the Workshops and Lectures page and sign up a guild or just a group of friends. YouCanQuilt too! I love introducing young people to the art of quilting and have guided my two nieces in making their own quilts, wall-hangings and bags at the early ages of 8 and 14.
Over the years, I have donated quilts in support of the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada, the Kidney Foundation, Westies in Need and my local church. I belong to several Quilt Guilds in the Ottawa area where I have held positions as Co-Librarian, Workshop Co-Ordinator at the guild level and then moved on to being the Workshop Team Lead for CQA's (Canadian Quilters' Association) Quilt Canada in 2016 and 2017. Since 2018 I have sat on the CQA Board of Directors; an honour I feel privileged to hold; my roles include Membership Director, Director at Large, Vice President and currently President of the Association.
I am passionate about quilting in Canada. So whether you are looking to purchase a ready-to-love quilt for yourself or to give as a gift or....if you want to learn to quilt.....or if you just need help in getting started, I am here for you. I would be happy to answer any inquiries; please contact me; we've got you covered.
